Treasure the Chest Pirate Fest is 3 days of fun and celebration in Virginia Beach, VA. It all begins Friday, September 19th, (International Talk Like a Pirate Day") and continues thoughout the weekend. It doesn't matter if you're a landlubber or an old salt; whether you prefer Errol Flynn or Johnny Depp, there will be lots of ways to show that you "Treasure the Chest".
This year our goal is to raise $250,000 for the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation (www.vbcf.org). The money will be used to assist uninsured and underinsured women in the local area in gaining access to early detection procedures (breast exams and screening mammograms). We've set our sights high because the risk of breast cancer is high (one in eight) and the chances of survival are high (85%) IF the cancer is detected early.
Pay It Forward:
Just before Thanksgiving 2006 my precious wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. Fortunately it was found very early because our health insurance pays for her annual exams. As a result, her treatment was less invasive and I am now confident she will be in my life for many years to come.
We would like to "pay it forward" in the hopes that no woman would be denied access to lifesaving, diagnostic procedures just because she has no health insurance....
